Become an Election Worker

Be a hero - volunteer to become an election worker: start out as an election clerk and gain the  experience to become an election judge.  Election clerks, alternate judges, and primary judges must be registered voters in their county. However, if you are 16 to 18 you may work at an election as a student clerk.

Election clerks and student clerks help the judges run the election. Clerks learn to check-in voters on the poll pad and verify voter identification. No experience is needed; it can be learned on the job, but we do strongly recommend attending a training class and observing during early voting.

Election judges run the elections. They verify the chain of custody for election documents and equipment, assist with provisional voting, and document the election day proceedings. We recommend that all judges complete the Texas SoS Election Worker Training and obtain a certificate.

To volunteer, email us at vztxdem@gmail.com with your contact information or contact the County Clerk's Office.

Texas SoS Election Worker Training

This training takes 3-4 hours to complete.

The training covers all counties in Texas and not all of the information applies to Van Zandt County.

If the training seems overwhelming, work as an election clerk  & then take this training.
